Biography

I am a Postdoctoral fellow in Professor Constantin Urban's group at the Department of Clinical Microbiology. My research primarily focuses on Nutritional Immunity and its application in neutrophils. I completed my master’s studies in clinical microbiology and medical microbiology at Near East University in Turkey, before pursuing my PhD at Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan, China, where I focused on developing a novel subunit vaccine for Mycobacterium tuberculosis. After completing my PhD, I undertook postdoctoral training at the Karolinska Institute that aimed at investigating CD4 T cell responses to Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection. I chose to continue my research career at Umeå University, currently supported by a Kempe Foundation Postdoc fellowship. My research activities here delve deeper into nutritional immunity, exploring metal ion fluxes and the underlying molecular mechanisms of immune responses in neutrophils against microbial pathogens. My aim is to uncover novel mechanisms of metal deprivation and to publish my findings in well-respected scientific journals. I am dedicated to fostering a culture of collaboration and mentorship within my research environment, striving to educate future clinical microbiologists and leave a lasting impact on the field.
