Professor Dr. Nader Engheta

Biography

Nader Engheta is the H. Nedwill Ramsey Professor in the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Pennsylvania, where he has made significant contributions to the field of electrical engineering and applied physics. His extensive academic journey includes earning his Bachelor's degree with highest rank from the University of Tehran, Iran, followed by both Master's and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). Engheta's research interests lie in a broad range of areas including optics, photonics, metamaterials, electrodynamics, microwaves, and nano-optics. He has been recognized with numerous prestigious awards such as the 2020 Isaac Newton Medal Prize from the Institute of Physics (UK) and the Max Born Award from OPTICA. His scholarly contributions have earned him a reputation as a Highly Cited Researcher. Engheta is also known for his engagement in editorial roles across various scientific journals and as a vibrant member of multiple scientific societies. Furthermore, he has received honorary doctorates from notable institutions including Aalto University and the University of Stuttgart. He leads the Engheta Group which focuses on research and development in advanced electromagnetic materials and systems, and he is active as a mentor and educator, dedicated to inspiring the next generation of engineers and scientists.
