Nadia Marie Quesnel is responsible for continuing education at the School of Optometry. She focuses on correcting visual anomalies through contact lenses or intraocular lenses. Her research allows her to compare the properties and characteristics of these lenses. She collaborates with refractive surgery clinics for research on correcting ametropia through laser treatments (LASIK or PRK) or through lens replacement. She is particularly interested in patient satisfaction following refractive surgery or cataract surgery, as well as the visual quality after these interventions. Her research has been presented in Canada, the United States, and Europe. She graduated from the University of Montreal’s School of Optometry in 1978 and obtained her MSc in 1995, becoming a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry in 2001. After years as a lecturer and clinic supervisor, she was appointed associate professor in 2020, following her role as assistant professor since 2005. In 2007, she became the scientific supervisor for the continuing education sector at the School of Optometry and represented the school until 2016. She served as president of the professional inspection committee of the OOQ from 2009 to 2012. Since 2004, she has worked part-time at the IRIS ophthalmology clinic, where she is the scientific director. This role has enabled her to gain particular knowledge and expertise in managing patients before and after intraocular and laser refractive surgery. Furthermore, she has worked on bridging optometry and ophthalmology, including developing training programs for pre- and postoperative care as well as an ocular health residency program. Since 2008, she has taught optometry students principles of co-management with ophthalmologists in cataract and refractive surgeries (lens replacement, LASIK and PRK). In 2010, she was recognized as one of the builders of the School of Optometry.
