Dr. Nadia Ameli

Biography

Nadia Ameli is a multidisciplinary researcher specializing in the economic, financial, and policy aspects of climate change and energy-related issues. As a Full Professor of Climate Finance at University College London (UCL), she serves as the Research Director at the Institute for Sustainable Resources (ISR). Her work focuses on the pivotal role of finance in driving the global transition to a low-carbon economy, with particular emphasis on integrating financial mechanisms into climate policy. Professor Ameli explores how to stimulate a virtuous cycle of investments and non-linear growth trajectories across diverse countries, market conditions, and stages of technological development, employing systemic complexity-based approaches. In 2024, she led the Working Group on Economics and Finance for the Lancet Countdown, a global research collaboration tracking the health impacts of climate change and evaluating policy responses. Her leadership in the working group strengthened economic and financial analysis of climate action, offering critical insights into the intersections of health, climate risks, and sustainable financial systems. Additionally, she serves on the Academic Board of the Cambridge 1.5°C-Aligned Corporate Bond Index and the Banking & Insurance Working Group, contributing to the development of financial instruments and methodologies aimed at aligning corporate finance with the Paris Agreement. In academia, Professor Ameli actively bridges research and policymaking, applying her expertise to real-world challenges and collaborating with leading international public policy organizations such as the OECD, IMF, Green Climate Fund, and World Bank, focusing on investment challenges in developing economies.
