Biography

Nadia Guerra is a Tenured Associate Professor leading the 'Inflammation Cancer Immunity' lab in the Department of Life Sciences at Imperial College London. As a Wellcome Trust Research Fellow from 2009 to 2015, she has made significant contributions in the fields of immunology and cancer research. Her research focuses on the physiological roles of Natural Killer (NK) cell receptors in cancer immunopathology, demonstrating the functional importance of both inhibitory KIR receptors and activating NKG2D in tumor rejection and inflammatory diseases. Notable contributions include evidence that NKG2D plays a tumor-promoting role in inflammation-driven cancers. She collaborates with various institutions to explore therapeutic strategies targeting NKG2D in liver cancer and employs advanced imaging techniques and novel mouse models to study NK cell behaviors in chronic inflammation. Additionally, her lab is developing innovative platforms for monitoring cancer immune biomarkers in collaboration with Joshua Edel and Aleksandar Ivanov. Nadia has received the Esther M. Baird Technology Impact Award from the Cancer Research Institute in 2024 and frequently contributes to workshops and seminars, sharing her findings and discussing emerging functions of non-classical lymphocytes.
