Biography

Nadia Y. Kim is a Professor of Sociology at Texas A&M University, where her research focuses on race, citizenship, and injustices faced by Korean/Asian Americans, South Koreans, and Latinx immigrants. Her work critically examines environmental racism and classism, particularly among women, through the lenses of (neo)imperialism, transnationality, and intersectionality. An accomplished author, Kim has published multiple award-winning books with Stanford University Press, including "Imperial Citizens: Koreans Race Seoul LA" (2008) and "Refusing Death: Immigrant Women Fight Environmental Justice LA" (2021). She also co-edited the volume "Disciplinary Futures: Sociology Conversation American, Ethnic & Indigenous Studies" (NYU, 2023). Kim's scholarly contributions have appeared in both national and international outlets such as National Public Radio, Southern California Public Radio, Red Table Talk, and the Washington Post, and she is actively engaged in issues related to immigrant rights, affirmative action, and environmental justice. In addition to her research, Kim enjoys singing, dancing, learning languages, and studying astrology.
