Biography

Nadya Mason is a professor at the University of Chicago's Department of Physics, specializing in experimental studies of quantum materials. Her research focuses on electronic properties of nanoscale correlated systems, emphasizing nano-scale wires, atomically thin membranes, and nanostructured superconductors. She investigates relevant applications involving nanoscale quantum computing elements. Recent projects include transport studies of strain-induced pseudomagnetic fields in graphene, Josephson diode effects in proximitized chiral magnets, and identifying new non-linear signatures in antiferromagnets. Before joining the University of Chicago, Mason served as the Rosalyn S. Yalow Professor of Physics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where she directed the Illinois Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology and was the founding director of the Illinois Materials Research Science Engineering Center (I-MRSEC). She has received multiple awards for her distinguished work, including the 2024 Robert Holland Jr. Award and the 2019 APS Bouchet Award, as well as being a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
