Biography

Nadya Peek is an Associate Professor in the Department of Human Centered Design & Engineering at the University of Washington, where she directs Machine Agency. Her work focuses on unconventional digital fabrication tools, small scale automation, networked control systems, and advanced manufacturing. Her research spans multiple fields including electronics, firmware, software, and mechanics, with an emphasis on harnessing precision machines to enhance the creativity of individuals. Prior to joining the HCDE faculty in February 2018, Peek was a postdoctoral research scientist at the MIT Media Lab's Center for Bits and Atoms. She is also the Vice President of the Open Source Hardware Association and co-founder of a design studio, James Giant Peek. In addition to her academic pursuits, she plays drum machines and synthesizers in a band called Construction.
