Biography

Dr. Naglaa Shoukry Mohamed is a full professor at Université de Montréal, specializing in Health Sciences and Medical Sciences. Her research primarily focuses on Hepatitis C virus (HCV) and immune response, examining the chronic infection patterns, disease progression, and potential vaccine development. Since joining CRCHUM in 2005, she has led translational research aimed at understanding immune mechanisms involved in acute and chronic HCV infections. Her work includes an ongoing collaboration to build a patient cohort and biobanks that are crucial for studying immunological and virological determinants of HCV elimination. Through innovative cellular and molecular biology techniques, her laboratory investigates lymphocyte responses during infection phases and treatment conditions. Dr. Shoukry’s projects address the urgent need for effective prophylactic vaccines against HCV, as well as the regulatory immune roles in the progression of hepatic fibrosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. She supervises graduate students and contributes to various significant research initiatives focused on HCV-related immunity and associated liver diseases.
