Naguib Kanawati is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Ancient History at Macquarie University and Director of the Australian Centre for Egyptology. Kanawati was elected a Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities and the Royal Society of New South Wales. He received the Centenary Medal in 2003 for his contributions to the humanities and the study of archaeology in Australia, and in 2007, he was awarded the Order of Australia.
