Biography

Nahid Bhadelia is an Associate Professor at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine and a board-certified infectious diseases physician. She is the founding director of the BU Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases Policy Research. Dr. Bhadelia served as Senior Policy Advisor for the Global COVID-19 Response on the White House COVID-19 Response Team from 2022 to 2023. From 2011 to 2021, she was the medical director of the Special Pathogens Unit at Boston Medical Center, a designated Ebola Treatment Center. Additionally, she has been involved in multiple Ebola virus disease outbreak responses in Africa and has worked with the Department of Defense as the clinical lead for the Joint Mobile Emerging Disease Intervention Clinical Capability program in Uganda. Currently, she is co-directing the Fogarty-funded BU-University of Liberia Emerging and Epidemic Viruses Research training program and is a member of the World Health Organization's Technical Advisory Group on Universal Health Preparedness Review. Her research interests include global health security, pandemic preparedness, and the evaluation of medical countermeasures for emerging infections. Dr. Bhadelia has published extensively in prestigious journals such as Nature and Science and has contributed as a medical expert to major media outlets including NBC/MSNBC.
