Biography

Naiomi Metallic is an Associate Professor at the Schulich School of Law, Dalhousie University, where she coordinates the Aboriginal Law Certificate and holds the Chancellor's Chair in Aboriginal Law Policy. A member of the Listuguj Mi’gmaq Nation, she has over ten years of experience practicing Aboriginal law before transitioning into academia to further advocate for Indigenous peoples through teaching and research. She speaks English and French, and is currently becoming fluent in Mi’gmaq. Her research interests encompass Aboriginal law, Indigenous law, constitutional law, administrative law, equality, human rights law, and diversity within the legal profession. Her work explores how law can promote the self-determination and well-being of Indigenous peoples in Canada, advocating for innovative approaches to address systemic discrimination facing these communities. Her teaching portfolio includes courses on Constitutional Law, Indigenous Governance, Aboriginal Peoples Law, and various specialized topics in Indigenous law.
