Nan Hao received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Biophysics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He completed postdoctoral fellowships with Timothy Elston at the University of North Carolina and with Erin O’Shea at Harvard University/Howard Hughes Medical Institute. His research is focused on understanding the molecular networks governing cellular functions, particularly in response to environmental stressors, aging, and diseases. The lab employs multidisciplinary approaches combining biology, engineering, and computer science. Current research themes include the decoding of stress response dynamics, mechanisms underlying cellular aging, and the heterogeneity of cancer cells. His laboratory is recognized for developing novel microfluidic imaging technologies to quantitatively track molecular processes in single living cells, enabling the construction of computational models that predict cellular behaviors.
