Biography

Dr. Nan E. Hatch is the Lysle E. Johnston Jr. Collegiate Professor and Chair of the Department of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. She received her DMD from Harvard School of Dental Medicine in 1999, an orthodontic certificate in 2002, and a PhD in Molecular Cell Biology from the University of Washington in 2005. Following her education, Dr. Hatch completed several years of post-doctoral training at the University of Michigan's Tissue Engineering Regeneration program, after which she became a full-time faculty member, being promoted to tenured Associate Professor. In 2016, she became the chair of her department. Dr. Hatch is board-certified by the American Board of Orthodontics and treats patients as well as serves as a clinical instructor and Research Director for orthodontic residents. Her research focuses on basic and translational aspects of bone biology, the molecular etiology of craniofacial anomalies, and the biological mediators of orthodontic tooth movement and retention. Throughout her career, she has received multiple research awards and actively contributes to the orthodontic community, holding several leadership positions in professional organizations. Dr. Hatch also holds a patent related to biomedical treatments for craniosynostosis and organizes the annual Moyers Symposium in collaboration with faculty from additional departments.
