Biography

Nan Marie Jokerst is the J. Jones Distinguished Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Duke University, where she also serves as the Executive Director of the Duke Shared Materials Instrumentation Facility. With a strong educational foundation, Jokerst received her B.S. in Physics from Creighton University in 1982, followed by her M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California in 1984 and 1989, respectively. Jokerst has held several prominent positions, including Associate Dean of the Pratt School of Engineering and Chair of the Duke Academic Council. She is a fellow of the IEEE and Optica (formerly OSA), which indicates her significant contributions to the field. Her research interests focus on optical sensing, integrated photonics, and the characterization of materials at the nanoscale. Jokerst has received numerous accolades, including the NSF Presidential Young Investigator Award and the IEEE Millennium Medal, highlighting her impact in the field of engineering and academia.
