Dr. Nanak Narulla

Biography

Nanak Narulla is an honorary research associate at the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment. He is a climate environmental lawyer who graduated as Valedictorian from the University of New South Wales with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations. Nanak has experience as a refugee legal advocate on Manus Island, Papua New Guinea, and has worked in human rights law with Zhicheng Public Interest Lawyers in Beijing. His practice has involved native title law with the Miriuwung Gajerrong Corporation in Australia. He has published widely in the fields of human rights and environmental law, and has enjoyed success in advocacy competitions in New York, Vienna, and Paris, winning the ICC International Commercial Mediation Competition. An accredited mediator and a Fellow of the Centre for Sustainability Leadership, Nanak is passionate about climate justice and has practiced climate change litigation at the Environmental Defenders Office. He also has experience as a public sector management consultant focusing on energy policy. At Oxford, he intends to continue his work at the intersection of climate justice, strategic litigation, and environmental policy. In his spare time, Nanak is an avid cook, a volunteer surf lifesaver, and enjoys football and surfing.
