Nancy Beadie is a Professor at the College of Education at the University of Washington. Her research focuses on the historical relationships between education, economics, and state formation at local, state, national, and international levels. Her current book project, "Paramount Duty of the State: Education and State Formation in the U.S., 1846-1912," analyzes the significance of education in the federal policy process and state (re)formation in the U.S. West from the Civil War era through the end of the 19th century. Beadie holds a Ph.D. in Cultural Foundations of Education from Syracuse University and has taught courses on history education and education reform in the United States.
