Biography

Nancy Carrasco received her M.D. and Master's degree in Biochemistry from the National Autonomous University of Mexico and completed postdoctoral training at the Roche Institute of Molecular Biology. She became a faculty member in the Department of Molecular Pharmacology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1987 and joined the Department of Cellular and Molecular Physiology at Yale School of Medicine in 2011. Dr. Carrasco has received numerous prestigious awards including the Pew Award in Biomedical Sciences and the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation Award. Her research focuses primarily on the Na+/I- symporter (NIS), which is crucial for iodide transport in the thyroid and lactating breast tissues. In addition, she has a strong interest in studying various biochemical, biophysical, and physiological aspects related to thyroid neoplasms and their associated diseases. Dr. Carrasco has served as president of the Society of Latin American Biophysicists and was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2015.
