Biography

Nancy J. Currie-Gregg is a Professor of Practice in the Industrial & Systems Engineering Department at Texas A&M University. She holds a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering with a specialization in Human Factors Engineering and Artificial Intelligence from the University of Houston, earned in 1997. With over 35 years of government and military experience, she is a retired Colonel in the U.S. Army and a former NASA astronaut with 1,000 hours of spaceflight experience across four missions (STS-57, STS-70, STS-88, STS-109). Her roles at NASA included senior engineering positions, such as deputy director of engineering and chief engineer, where she led significant safety efforts following the Columbia accident. Her extensive research interests span spacecraft occupant protection, aerospace human systems integration, human-robot interaction, quantitative risk analysis, and systems safety engineering. She has received numerous awards for her contributions to engineering and NASA, including the United States Government Presidential Rank Award, NASA Distinguished Service Medal, and distinguished alumni recognitions from both the University of Houston and Ohio State University.
