Biography

Nancy Ambrose King is a distinguished oboist and Professor of Oboe at the University of Michigan's School of Music, Theatre & Dance. An accomplished soloist, she gained recognition as the first-prize winner of the New York International Competition for Solo Oboists in 1995. King's performance repertoire includes collaborations with prestigious ensembles such as the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Prague Chamber Orchestra, and the New York String Orchestra. She has premiered works such as Nigel Westlake’s Spirit of the Wild and performed at renowned venues including Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. With eleven recorded CDs to her credit, including recent releases featuring concertos from notable composers, King has made significant contributions to chamber music and solo performances alike. In addition to her teaching and performance career, she has written a successful e-book on oboe reed making and has been recognized as a leading figure in the oboe community, currently serving as the President of the International Double Reed Society. Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Music from the University of Michigan and advanced degrees from the Eastman School of Music, where she earned her Doctor of Musical Arts. King has received several accolades, including the prestigious Harold Haugh Teaching Award and the Distinguished Faculty Achievement Award from the University of Michigan.
