Nancy R. Mead is a Fellow at the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) and an Adjunct Professor of Software Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. Dr. Mead is currently engaged in studying security requirements engineering and developing software assurance curricula. She served as the director of education at SEI from 1991 to 1994. Her research interests span areas including software security, software requirements engineering, and software architectures. Before joining SEI, Mead worked as a senior technical staff member at IBM Federal Systems, where she contributed to the management and development of large real-time systems. She also managed IBM Federal Systems' software engineering education department and developed and taught numerous courses on software engineering topics, both at universities and through professional education courses. Dr. Mead has authored over 150 publications and has given invited presentations, and she serves on the editorial boards of renowned journals such as the International Journal of Systems Software and the Security Protection Requirements Engineering Journal. She is a member of the IEEE Technical Committee on Software Engineering and the Open University Advisory Board. Recognized as a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the IEEE Computer Society, she has received numerous accolades, including the Distinguished Educator Award from the IEEE Computer Society's Technical Council on Software Engineering in 2015 and was named a Parnas Fellow at Lero, the Irish Software Research Centre, in 2019.
