Biography

Nancy Price is a part-time academic at the Fountain School of Performing Arts at Dalhousie University. She has a rich educational background, having studied at the Ontario College of Art in 1984, the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University in 2002, and Ecole de La Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne in 2014. Her teaching experience spans various post-secondary institutions, where she focuses on textile courses including Print Dye, Intro Weaving, and Experimental Fashion. Nancy's research interests are centered on Costume Studies, exploring the intersection of textile aesthetics and the human body. She has engaged in gallery production and participated in solo and group exhibitions, co-organizing notable shows such as the MEISEN exhibition in 2016, which featured the largest collection of Meisen kimono in the world. With a distinctive career in textile design, she has also worked in Italy, Japan, and has collaborated with avant-garde clothing designers. Her work challenges traditional views on fittingness and materiality, encapsulating a dialogue between clothing, social identity, and movement, all while critiquing cultural norms of taste.
