Biography

Nancy Reid studied at the University of Waterloo (B.Math. 1974), University of British Columbia (M.Sc. 1976), Stanford University (Ph.D. 1979), and Imperial College, London (PDF 1980). She joined the University of Toronto in 1986. Reid has held leadership roles in statistical science, including serving as Chair of the Department from 1997 to 2002 and as Scientific Director of the Canadian Statistical Sciences Institute from 2015 to 2019. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society, the Royal Society of Canada, and the Royal Society of Edinburgh, and a Foreign Associate of the National Academy of Sciences. In 2015, she was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada. Reid has received numerous awards, including the Canada Research Chair from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council, and is an ASA Fellow of the American Statistical Association. She has also been recognized by the COPSS Presidents’ Award and has served on committees for prestigious awards such as the Florence Nightingale David Award and the SSC Gold Medal from the Statistical Society of Canada.
