Biography

Nancy L. Van Devanter is a Professor Emerita at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing, with extensive experience in behavioral intervention research focused on health promotion and disease prevention among populations facing significant health disparities. She has worked closely with state and local health departments to develop and improve public health programs. Over her career at NYU, she has been involved in numerous interdisciplinary studies in collaboration with the NYU School of Medicine, Dentistry, and the Public Health Program. Dr. Van Devanter holds a PhD from Columbia University School of Public Health, a Master of Public Health from Harvard University, and an EdM as well as a BS from Boston University. Her research includes effective strategies for tobacco dependence treatment in community health settings and understanding barriers to cervical cancer screening in the Dominican Republic. She has received various honors, including Fellowships from the American Academy of Nursing and the New York Academy of Medicine, recognizing her contributions to public health and nursing education.
