Biography

Nancy Lee Zucker is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Duke University, with a focus on Child and Family Mental Health and Community Psychiatry. Since 2021, she has also served as the Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience. Her research interests specifically concentrate on the difficulties individuals face in detecting, interpreting, and using bodily signals to guide adaptive behavior in their environment. Dr. Zucker's current studies explore the disruptions in these capacities that contribute to psychosomatic disorders, such as functional abdominal pain and anorexia nervosa. By investigating the factors that help individuals know, trust, and flourish within their developmental contexts, she aims to provide insights into effective interventions for psychological disorders. Dr. Zucker has published numerous articles regarding dietary restraint and disordered eating behaviors in youth, as well as mind-body treatments for functional gastrointestinal disorders. She is also involved in multiple nationally funded research initiatives concerning child psychiatric conditions and adolescent obesity.
