Dr. Nanduri Prabhakar

Biography

Nanduri Prabhakar is a prominent professor at the University of Chicago's Department of Medicine. His research primarily focuses on the advances in cell and molecular biology that have occurred over the past half-century. His work has emphasized the transition from organ-level studies to a more integrative approach concerning cellular and molecular physiology. Recognizing a gap in understanding the effects of molecular cellular changes on organ and whole-animal levels, Dr. Prabhakar advocates for integrative physiology, which merges concepts from cell and molecular physiology with biochemistry. He has played a key role in establishing the Institute for Integrative Physiology at the University of Chicago, aimed at promoting collaboration among faculty and elevating the visibility of physiological research. His extensive background includes a Master's degree from the University of Baroda, a Ph.D. in Physiology from Ruhr University, Bochum, and a D.Sc. in Biology, demonstrating a long-standing commitment to research and education. He has been honored with numerous awards, including being elected as a Fellow of the American Physiological Society, receiving various distinguished lecture awards, and serving as a principal investigator in multiple significant research projects.
