Dr. Nanke Verloo

Biography

Nanke Verloo is an Associate Professor at the University of Amsterdam in the Department of Geography and Planning, focusing on urban politics and inclusive governance. Her extensive research interests encompass conflict, local governance, democratic innovation, citizen participation, urban development, and action research, among others. Committed to bridging the gap between academia and society, she engages in participatory methodologies that enhance public engagement in urban planning. Verloo supervises PhD candidates and leads various collaborative research initiatives aimed at studying how citizen participation policies impact urban governance. Her academic contributions include publications across fields such as Political Geography and Public Administration. Notably, she was awarded the NWO VENI grant for her research on participatory planning conflicts and has been involved in projects aimed at improving civic engagement in local decision-making processes.
