Naomi Baker is a Senior Lecturer in English Literature at the University of Manchester. She has published widely on early modern literature and drama with a particular interest in English Renaissance literature, intersections of literature and theology, and seventeenth-century women's writing. Her most recent book, "Voices Thunder: Radical Religious Women Seventeenth Century", explores the lives of lesser-known radical Protestant women and their writings, demonstrating the role of radical Protestantism in challenging social norms. Baker has also critically edited essential texts in the field, such as early conversion narratives by women, which contribute to understanding early modern women's voices. She teaches courses focused on the relationship between literature and philosophy, and the physical representations of ugliness in early modern culture. With a PhD from the University of Oxford, Baker has held a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship and has been a visiting academic at the University of Queensland in 2019. She also serves as an Associate Editor for the journal Literature Theology, contributing significantly to ongoing scholarly discussions in this interdisciplinary field.
