Biography

Narin Hassan is an Associate Professor in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication at Georgia Institute of Technology. She received her Ph.D. in English from the University of Rochester. Her research and teaching interests encompass Victorian literature and culture, gender studies, postcolonial and decolonial studies, and health humanities. She authored the book 'Diagnosing Empire: Women, Medical Knowledge, and Colonial Mobility' published by Routledge, which examines the role of women doctors within the context of Victorian colonial scientific expansion. Hassan has published articles in notable journals such as Women's Studies Quarterly and Nineteenth-Century Gender Studies, and has contributed to numerous book collections. Currently, she is working on a manuscript exploring the gendered cultures of yoga within colonial contexts and has co-edited special issues for journals in the field of medical humanities. Narin Hassan has also served as Vice President and President of the Interdisciplinary Nineteenth-Century Studies, continuing as an ex-officio Past President from 2017-2024.
