Biography

Nasser Ashgriz is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto. He previously held a professorship in Mechanical Aerospace Engineering at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He earned his BS (1979), MS (1981), and PhD (1984) degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Professor Ashgriz has received several awards including the Bennet Prize for outstanding scholarly work in Mechanical Engineering (1981, 1983), the Ralph Teetor Award from the Society of Automotive Engineers (1988), and the Picture Award from the American Physical Society (1988). Additionally, he received the Paper Award from the Combustion Institute (1992) and the TOKTEN Award from the United Nations Development Program (1995). He has also been a visiting scientist at national laboratories, including NASA's Lewis Research Center and the Phillips Laboratory at Edwards Air Force Base. Professor Ashgriz holds a patent for the MultiOrifice Impulsed Spray Generator (Patent 4,667,877) and is actively involved in various professional societies.
