Biography

Nasser Lashgarian Azad is a Professor in the Department of Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship in Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. His primary research interests encompass intelligent controls and automation applications in automotive systems, including autonomous vehicles and drones. He also focuses on innovative applications of artificial intelligence methods to solve complex modeling, optimization, and control problems. With over 70 publications in high-caliber, peer-reviewed journals, his work has been featured in IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, Artificial Intelligence Review, Applied Soft Computing, and many others. In recognition of his contributions, he received the Early Researcher Award from the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation in 2015. His research interests further include connected vehicles, control design, dynamics, electric hybrid vehicles, energy management systems, and optimization techniques for secure vehicle control and unmanned aerial vehicles. He is committed to oversight in his field and actively guides graduate student applications towards innovative solutions in engineering.
