Biography

Natacha Nsabimana is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Chicago. She completed her PhD at Columbia University in 2017. Her research interests are broadly focused on socio-cultural anthropology, particularly in the areas of law subjectivity, postcolonial critique, and the politics of violence, temporality, and African history. Nsabimana's current project examines the aftermath of violence in post-genocide Rwanda and explores how the events of the 1994 Tutsi genocide affect spatial memory in the country's landscape. Her work considers both individual and national narratives and how memory can both reveal and conceal important truths about the past. During the 2023-2024 academic year, she is on leave.
