Natalia Castro Picón received her Ph.D. in Latin American and Iberian Latino Cultures from the Graduate Center, City University of New York, and a B.A. in Spanish Philology from Universidad Complutense de Madrid. She specializes in modern contemporary Iberian literature and culture, integrating Cultural Studies methodologies with a glottopolitical perspective, which examines language and discourse as inherently political and tied to questions of power and identity. Her book, "La fiesta del fin del mundo. Apocalipsis cultural en el periodo entre crisis (España 2008–2020)," explores the pervasive presence of apocalyptic imaginaries in Spanish cultural production and public discourse from the 2008 financial crisis to the COVID-19 pandemic. It presents contested cultural terrains where hegemonic voices use apocalyptic rhetoric to defend the status quo, while countercultural actors invoke imagery to imagine new futures. She emphasizes that poetic discourse offers a unique way to navigate conflict. Castro Picón is also a member of the General Coordination Team of ALCESXXI and participates in the research group on Transnational Elites, Inequalities, and Values funded by Princeton–Humboldt Strategic Partnership Initiatives. She has taught courses in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Brooklyn College (CUNY) and at the City College (CUNY).
