Dr. Natalia Gomez Ospina

Biography

Dr. Natalia Gomez-Ospina is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Stanford University, specializing in Medical Genetics. She was born and raised in Medellin, Colombia, and completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Colorado Boulder, earning a double major in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology and Biochemistry, graduating summa cum laude. She obtained her MD and PhD from Stanford Medical School, with her doctoral research focused on the functions of voltage-gated calcium channels. Following her education, she completed residency training in Medical Genetics and has contributed significantly to clinical practice by treating patients suspected of having genetic disorders. Dr. Gomez-Ospina has authored influential research published in high-impact journals, demonstrating expertise in rare diseases, lysosomal storage diseases, and metabolic diseases. Her research interests include developing genome editing-based therapies for neurodegenerative diseases, improving point-of-care testing for hyperammonemia, and discovering genetic causes of cholestatic liver disease.
