Biography

Natalie Castellanos-Ryan is a researcher at CHU Sainte-Justine in Montreal and an assistant professor at the School of Psychoeducation, University of Montreal. She previously served as a postdoctoral fellow at the CHU Sainte-Justine Research Center and the Department of Psychiatry, University of Montreal (2010-2014). She earned her doctorate from King's College London in the Institute of Psychiatry (2009), where much of her work focused on implementing and evaluating an approach targeting personality risk factors for early intervention or prevention of drug use and other behavioral problems in adolescence. Her research focuses on understanding the development of addiction and mental health disorders, shared risk factors, and prevention strategies, particularly how deficits in self-regulation and developmental factors predict substance use and psychological comorbidity in youth. Together with her research team, she is involved in longitudinal studies examining the complex relationship between pubertal development, substance use, and mental health outcomes in adolescents.
