Biography

Natalie Welden has a background in Environmental Science with a specialized focus on aquatic habitats. She began her journey in biology at a young age and pursued her academic studies at the University of Derby, where she earned her degree in Ecology. Her interest in environmental management continued at the University of York, where she completed her Master’s degree in Marine Environmental Management. Following her education, she worked with the Environment Agency on river health monitoring and later focused on microplastic pollution during her PhD at the University of Glasgow. Throughout her career, she has conducted significant research on the impact of microplastics in marine environments, including their effects on commercially important species such as langoustine. After her doctoral studies, she worked on innovative environmental projects and returned to the University of Glasgow as a lecturer, teaching various undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Environmental Science and Sustainability.
