Biography

Natalya Pya Arnqvist is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematical Statistics at Umeå University. Her main research interests include statistical regression modeling and functional data analysis. She specializes in developing methods for shape-preserving smoothing and generalized additive models, which have applications in shape-constrained additive models (SCAMs). Arnqvist has created the R package ‘scam’ that implements SCAM, facilitating tensor product smooths for bivariate functions with shape constraints. Additionally, she is involved in model-based clustering of functional data and has authored works on R packages addressing functional data analysis and statistical methods. Arnqvist actively participates in several research projects that focus on innovative applications of statistical methods, including AI-powered computational materials design and the development of exact algorithms for the traveling salesperson problem. She teaches undergraduate, graduate, and executive MBA courses in probability, statistics, and advanced statistical modeling, with a strong focus on practical applications in engineering and business contexts.
