Biography

Natasa Gisev is an Associate Professor at the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre at the University of New South Wales, Sydney. She is a clinical pharmacist whose research interests focus on the use of big data and data linkage to evaluate medicines use along with their corresponding benefits and harms in populations with complex health care needs, particularly older adults dealing with mental health and substance use disorders. Her work aims to improve the quality of medicine usage and clinical outcomes within these populations. Gisev's research has significantly influenced both national and international policy and practice regarding the delivery of mental health treatment services, including the upscaling of treatment services for opioid dependence. She is currently leading a program aimed at establishing population-based evidence for the long-term outcomes of prescribed opioid use, as well as the associated risks of developing dependence, overdose, and other harms.
