Biography

Natasha Sandmeier is an Assistant Adjunct Professor who operates at the intersection of architecture and visualization, with a long-standing focus on media creation and the production of speculative architectures and environments. She directs the Master of Science in Architecture and Urban Design (MSAUD) program at UCLA Architecture and Urban Design and leads the postgraduate Speculative Worlds Studio. As a registered architect in the Netherlands, she is a founding partner of the design practice Office UR based in Los Angeles. Sandmeier is the author and editor of the book 'Worlds' (London, 2014), which re-examines the role of the architect in contemporary culture. Currently, she is working on 'Tremors Signals: Field Reports Possible Futures', an anthology that combines speculative fiction with visual inserts and short essays to explore narrative worldbuilding in light of systemic planetary change. She holds an MA with Distinction from the Design Research Lab at the Architectural Association in London and has worked as a Project Architect at the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) in Rotterdam, where she led the design of the Seattle Public Library.
