Professor Dr. Nathalie Piquemal

Biography

Nathalie Piquemal, originally from France, completed her Master’s degree in education anthropology and received her PhD from the University of Alberta in the Departments of Education and Anthropology. Her research focuses on ethical protocols and practices while incorporating Indigenous perspectives. Nathalie specializes in intercultural and international education, with a specific focus on issues of racialization, social justice, and equity. She works with newcomers to facilitate integration, belonging, and wellbeing, employing phenomenological inquiry to address the challenges faced by marginalized voices, particularly refugees and war-affected families. Her international work with NGOs has tackled barriers to school participation, and her research encompasses incivility in higher education with particular attention to race, gender, and indigeneity.
