Biography

Nathan Irvin is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Johns Hopkins University, with a medical degree from Harvard Medical School obtained in 2003. He completed his residency in emergency medicine at Alameda Health System's Highland Hospital in Oakland, California, where he served as chief resident, graduating in 2011. Following his residency, Dr. Irvin participated in the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's Clinical Scholars Program at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 2013 with a master's degree in health policy research. His research interests focus on social emergency medicine, particularly in addressing health and behavioral problems affecting urban communities, including threats posed by HIV/AIDS and violence. Dr. Irvin currently works as the clinical director of the emergency department at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, spearheading an HIV/HCV screening program aimed at linking patients to care. His engagement also extends to initiatives for youth violence prevention by developing trauma-informed, hospital-based interventions.
