Nathan Perl-Rosenthal is a historian specializing in the eighteenth- and early nineteenth-century Atlantic world. His research focuses on political and cultural history in Europe and the Americas during the age of revolution, with particular attention to the transnational influences that shaped modern national politics. He received his PhD in History from Columbia University in 2011, where his dissertation dealt with epistolarity and revolutionary organizing. Perl-Rosenthal published a book on the topic in 2015 titled 'Citizen Sailors: Becoming American in the Age of Revolution,' released by Belknap/Harvard. He has authored several journal articles, including notable works on legal spaces in maritime empires and the cultural dimensions of the age of revolution. At USC Dornsife, he has also served as a Provost’s Postdoctoral Fellow in the Humanities from 2011 to 2012.
