Biography

Nathanael Wells is a medical anthropologist and research associate at the Kirby Institute, specializing in sexual health. His PhD research focused on the use of Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) among men who have sex with men (MSM) in Melbourne, Australia. This research explored how perceptions of sexual risk and safety have shifted with the advent of PrEP, enabling users to experience new possibilities of sexual pleasure and intimacy. Nathanael has a particular interest in understanding sexual health and STI prevention. Prior to his PhD, he examined the racial stereotypes faced by self-identified Asian gay men and how these stereotypes affect their interactions within the broader gay community. His research interests include sexual health, HIV prevention, HIV-related stigma, and LGBTIQ health and sexuality.
