Dr. Navkiran Shokar

Biography

Dr. Navkiran K. Shokar is a professor and the Associate Dean for Community Affairs at Dell Medical School, University of Texas at Austin. She is a tenured professor with over 20 years of experience in academic medicine as a clinician, educator, and clinical researcher. Previously, she served at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso, where she was also the interim associate dean for clinical research and the director of the Cancer Prevention and Control Center of Emphasis. Shokar holds an M.D. from Oxford University Medical School and a Master of Public Health from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Her research interests include cancer prevention and control interventions, shared decision-making, and community-based research aimed at addressing cancer health disparities among vulnerable populations. Throughout her career, she has developed innovative population health approaches to bridge the divide between community health and the healthcare delivery system. Shokar has received significant funding for her research from organizations such as the Cancer Prevention Research Institute of Texas and the National Cancer Institute, and she has served as a reviewer for numerous journals. She is also an active member of several national steering committees in academic family medicine.
