Biography

Nazanin Bassiri-Gharb is a Harris Saunders Jr. Chair Professor at the Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. She began her tenure at Georgia Tech in Summer 2007 as an Assistant Professor and previously served as a Senior Engineer in the Materials Device R&D group at the MEMS Research Innovation Center of QUALCOMM MEMS Technologies, Inc. Dr. Bassiri-Gharb's research focuses on understanding the processing-structure-property relationships in functional materials, particularly in the areas of electro-mechanical functionalities and the development of micro-nano-electro-chemo-mechanical devices. She employs advanced characterization techniques and machine learning approaches to investigate the properties of materials at multiple length scales. Her academic achievements include a Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University and multiple awards recognizing her contributions to the fields of ultrasonics, ferroelectrics, and engineering education. Dr. Bassiri-Gharb is also an active member and fellow of several prestigious organizations including AAAS, IEEE, and MRS.
