Nazmul Sultan is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Yale University. His research interests encompass the history of political thought, anticolonial thought, democratic theory, and global ideas. Currently, he is engaged in projects that reconstruct the intellectual history of the postcolonial state and mid-century political thought. One of his book-length projects aims to trace the complex origins of the postcolonial state within postwar political thought and social sciences, reflecting on the philosophical foundations necessary for understanding democratic statehood in the early postcolonial era. Additionally, he is working on a long-term project that reevaluates global histories related to key political ideas such as equality, patriotism, and colonialism, and analyzes the implications for the study of modern political thought. Sultan is also editing a selection of Rabindranath Tagore’s political writings, collaborating on an editorial project under contract with Cambridge Texts in the History of Political Thought, which aims to compile Tagore’s representative political writings into a single volume. He holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Chicago.
