Biography

Neal Hall is an Associate Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin, holding the Temple Foundation Endowed Faculty Fellowship. He obtained his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas, Austin in 1999, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Georgia Institute of Technology in 2002 and 2004, respectively. Neal's research focuses on silicon micromachined acoustic transducers and he has worked as an Intelligence Community Postdoctoral Fellow at Sandia National Laboratories from 2004 to 2006. He joined the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at UT Austin as an Assistant Professor in January 2009. Throughout his career, he has received several accolades, including the ONR Young Investigator Award in 2014 and the DARPA Young Faculty Award in 2012. Neal is also the founder of Silicon Audio, Inc., a high-tech startup that commercializes photonics-based acoustic seismic sensors, with research support from NIH, NSF, DOE, and DARPA.
