Biography

Neal Willcott’s research interests focus on sustainable finance, specifically examining the impacts of climate change on macroeconomic and financial policy outcomes. Before joining Memorial University, Neal was affiliated with the Institute for Sustainable Finance at Queen’s University, where he contributed to a variety of white papers. He is currently completing his PhD at Queen’s University, with an expected graduation in Spring 2024. Neal has received several awards, including the CPA Ontario Centre for Corporate Reporting Professionalism Funding Award in 2022 and the Research Topic PhD Student Research Excellence Award. He was also recognized for his work as a case writer in 2021 and secured first place in the John Molson Business Ownership Case Writing Competition in 2019. Neal’s published research includes studies on the cost of capital related to emissions disclosures and the role of student-managed investment funds in addressing the skills gap in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria. He has authored works in various prestigious journals and continues to explore the intersection of finance and sustainability through his academic career.
