Dr. Neda Genova

Biography

Neda Genova is a lecturer at the University of Southampton, specializing in Digital Media. Her research interests focus on visual cultures, media and cultural studies, and interdisciplinary methodologies. She is committed to exploring questions of abstraction and mediation, particularly in the context of post-socialist transformations. In her work, she probes collaborative methods of knowledge production within academia, emphasizing the political potential of media and aesthetics. Neda has recently investigated the temporal politics of humor in Bulgarian post-communism, examining the role of digital memes in reshaping urban spaces and cultural narratives. She is completing a book titled 'Politics Surfaces. Transformations Urban Space Post-Communist Sofia' and an edited volume on collaborative aesthetic interventions. Previously, she was a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow at the Centre of Interdisciplinary Methodologies, University of Warwick, where she led an individual research project. Neda's academic background includes a PhD in Media, Communication, and Cultural Studies from Goldsmiths and various teaching roles across institutions in the UK and Germany. Her scholarly work has been published in several peer-reviewed journals and she has contributed to international research forums.
