Dr. Neelam Wright

Biography

Joining the University of Southampton in February 2023, Neelam Wright worked as a researcher developer trainer in the Doctoral College. She has held various teaching, academic, research, and professional service roles in higher education institutions, including Surrey, UCL, Kingston, and Sussex. Neelam has significant experience in equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) consultancy, holding roles such as department faculty EDI lead and steering group chair. Her commitment to enhancing the educational experience for postgraduate research (PGR) students is evident through her work on projects that focus on diversity, wellbeing, and the development of inclusive training resources. Neelam's background in film studies contributes to her research in international postmodern cultural politics and cross-cultural translation, particularly in Indian cinema. She is passionate about mentoring under-represented individuals in higher education and has implemented various mentoring programs at doctoral schools and HR organization development teams. Neelam's teaching philosophy emphasizes cultural intelligence and inclusive curriculum development, and she has designed workshops on a range of topics that support PGRs and academic staff in their professional development. Her recent work includes leading projects aimed at decolonizing training and creating a more inclusive research environment. Additionally, she is a recognized speaker on issues of belonging, diversity, and inclusivity in research.
